Everything about Halston seems, very quickly, to get back to the personality of Halston himself - 70s Tom Ford if he never stopped doing blow, etc. This vibe is best described as dated excessiveness, and as the disco era gets farther from living memory the whole idea becomes more mutable. This frag, for better or worse, still largely fits that particular bill. 1-12 goes through 3 distinct stages from spray to fade. Up front, bright wintergreen, almost like Aqua Velva. This goes, in about 5-10 minutes, into a funky, herbal, vegetal phase. Sage and coriander are strongest, but there's mint and lavender in there too, alongside some weird musk notes. On the first few sprays, this stage had a decidedly rotten, almost nauseous element, like the herbs had been overlong in the crisper - this seems to mellow with use. The drydown is almost bang-on Irish Spring, with soapy mint predominating. It's clean, then dirty, then clean again, in about an hour. All this noted, 1-12 gets a surprising number of compliments (i.e., "You smell like an Egyptian" from an Egyptian friend). Superfresh mint notes are pretty popular in soap, body wash, and aftershave (again, Aqua Velva and Irish Spring), so even as strong as 1-12 is, a light dousing might go unnoticed. One weird bit is that 1-12 has no tobacco notes but syncs bizarrely well with them, including actual cigarette or cigar smoke - that's the 70s for ya. Basically, a great evening fragrance for any time of the year when the leaves are out.

When a woman anointed Jesus feet, she used aromatic Nard. I read what the ingredients in Nard is by today's scents. Halston 1-12 comes the closest to replicating the scent of Nard

Nothing wrong with this product- It just wasnt suited to me- The nose was far too floral and " powderpuff" for me- I was told it to be more citrusy- which it was not- The Z-14 on the other hand is a delish perfume
