About Jean Patou

Jean Patou History and background of Jean Patou. Jean Patou was born in Normandy, France, in 1880. Patou's father was a leading tanner (leather maker) and his uncle owned a fur business which Patou joined in 1907. In 1912 Patou opened Maison Parry, a small dressmaking salon in Paris, and sold his entire 1914 collection to one American buyer. I received my ounce of Joy from my boyfriend, at the time, when he returned from spending his summer in Europe, 1969. He, of course, later became my husband. With my gift of Joy who could say, "No". We married in 1970 and just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. What may surprise you is that I still have about 1/16 of an ounce of the perfume. It is still in the original glass holder with the green leather cradling the precious Joy. I have saved it all these years so I can tell all who are thinking of buying Joy, it is worth it. Good Luck!

If you like flowery fragrances then you might like this but, unfortunately, it wasn't what I was looking for. Reminds me of Diorissimo by Christian Dior.

        I never tried Joy when I was young. It was reputedly the most expensive perfume in the world. What a fool I was! In my 80s I have just discovered what I missed. It brings to mind warm Mediterranean nights heavy with the scent of jasmine.So romantic!
