Italian-born Maria Ricci moved to France as a child and became a designer for the House of Raffin, a position she held for twenty years. In 1932, she founded her haute couture house, Nina Ricci, which combines her nickname and her married surname. Based in Paris, the brand grew from a small design atelier into many salons encompassing eleven floors across three buildings. Ricci’s son Robert managed the finances and operations for the business and launched the brand’s perfume line in 1941, with the first fragrance released in 1946.
