Hardly "Custom Blended"
Used this on and off since its introduction in 1981/1982. I want to like it, but like many Estée Lauder fragrances, there is a base note in all Lauder fragrances that is the same and upon smelling it you know it is Lauder. Also, as many times as I have tried it, I get pounding headaches. As for the legend about the now-departed Mrs. Lauder "custom blending" this fragrance as an homage to the love of her life, her husband, not buying that story. This fragrance is almost identical to Lauder's Cinnabar for women (which in itself is akin to the original Youth-Dew), save for the fact that it isn't as "sweet". Same for Aramis and the Ladies' Azuree, as well as Aramis Devin and the Ladies' Aliage. Unfortunately JHL can't work for me. My preference is for the more "herbal" Lauder for Men, which has been around as long as JHL, and is still available.

I WOULD BUY ARAMIS 100% AUTHENTIC JHL AGAIN & AGAIN CLASSIC
STILL HAVE ORGINAL BOTTLES OF ALL MY SIGNATURE FRAGRANCES. MANY I STARTED WEARING AFTER RETURNING FROM VIET NAM - MOST WHEN FIRST INTRODUCED. HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER OF THE ONES I PERSONALLY PREFER UNTIL THEY STOPPED PRODUCTION. VERY PLEASED QUALITY FIRMS SUCH AS YOURS ARE ABLE TO SEEK OUT THE PRODUCT.

A must have in your collection!
I first got this in the early 80's. And only now I've been able to get this bottle back in my collection. I would "get lucky" when i would use this fragrance.

Many years ago, Estée Lauder developed JHL Cologne for her husband... in that case, it must be good enough to be kept in stock - always!... Why have I been on the waiting list for JHL Cologne for years?...

Not the same, but not bad
The original formulation of JHL (with the copper bottom) was the best men's cologne EVER. Actually had that "walking a cute dog" effect - women would literally stop me and ask what it was! It was potent, but if used properly (sparingly), it was the best. This "new formulation" has been toned down considerably. It pretty much smells the same in the bottle, but does NOT wear the same. After about an hour, the Estee Lauder comes out, and you smell like your grandmother - not a good thing ;)

i used it in 1984 when it was formulated with Bourban and was the companion scent to Cinebar from Estelauder , this new formulation is differant not as heavy and definitely individual
