Versace Bright Crystal Perfume: The Perfect Scent for Summer

For so many of us, the tastes, sights, and sounds of the summer conjure up some of our favorite memories…

Maybe it’s that first bite of juicy watermelon you’ve been longing for all winter or the first time you feel the summer sun on your bare shoulders. Perhaps it’s the sound of evening crickets that reminds you of endless nights with a special someone or a memory that you had almost let slip away.

For me, summertime is all about the smells.

Summer has always been my favorite season, and there’s nothing I love more than finding the perfect scent that can be as easy to wear during a warm summer day as it is throughout a balmy summer night.

Each spring, I set out to find a new perfume, one that will represent my mood at that point in my life. Like a favorite summer song, I love to find a scent that will always remind me of that particular summer…a scent that – every time I smell it – will take me back to that summer again.

It was no surprise then, that when I was introduced to Versace’s Bright Crystal perfume, I knew I had found this year’s summer scent.

Versace: The Man and the Style that Transformed Fashion Forever

Anyone familiar with high fashion is going to be familiar with the name Versace.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Versace became a prominent player in the fashion industry, known for bold prints, bright colors, and daring designs.

And though Gianni Versace’s tragic death in 1997 left the fashion world in shock, his legacy continued through the work of his siblings, Santo and Donatella Versace.

Donatella, in particular, took over the creative direction of the brand, infusing it with her own bold and glamorous vision.

Today, Versace remains one of the most iconic luxury fashion houses in the world, and has expanded well beyond just fashion to include accessories, home decor and – my personal favorite – a perfume line like no other.

The Rise of the Versace Perfume Line

Versace’s foray into the fragrance industry began in 1981 with the release of the first fragrance, Gianni Versace for Women.

This well-received floral scent was quickly followed by a number of even more successful fragrances for both men and women throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including the iconic Versace Red Jeans and Versace Blonde fragrances.

He believed that a fragrance could be a personal signature, and that the right scent could convey a woman’s personality and mood.

As Versace was known for saying, “Perfume puts the finishing touch to elegance.”

After Gianni’s unfortunate and untimely death, the Versace fragrance line continued to expand under the creative direction of his sister, Donatella, with new releases like Versace Bright Crystal, Versace Perfume Yellow Diamond, and Versace Eros.

Today, Versace fragrances remain a key part of the brand’s identity, and are known for their sensual blend, strong middle notes and gorgeous floral scents.

My Love Affair with Versace Bright Crystal Perfume

I was first introduced to Versace Bright Crystal when visiting a past college friend a few weeks ago.

In desperate need for a new scent that would carry me out of the sporadic spring months of New England and into the soon-to-be summer season, I commented on how much I liked the freshness of the great scent she was wearing.

Right away, I could smell the peony base notes mixed with other fragrances such as pomegranate mingled with magnolia. The overall effect made me feel feminine and delicate, yet strong and confident. It made me feel optimistic and inspired to embrace whatever was to come next.

I sprayed a bit more of the Bright Crystal perfume onto my pulse points on my wrist and deeply inhaled the smell.

Still, I could smell the pomegranate and peony mixed with the magnolia. But there was something else that I couldn’t quite place.

So — like any smart young woman who falls for something and wants to know more about it — I turned to my phone to research what else it was that made me absolutely love this scent.

Quickly I discovered that the Versace Bright Crystal eau de toilette spray does indeed have top notes of pomegranate, peony and magnolia but also includes a delicate mix of refreshing chilled yuzu, lotus flower, and red woods as well.

There are also base notes of rich amber that lend to the elegance of the perfume, making it not only a great scent for the summer months but one that I may even decide to wear year round as well.

I would not be doing this perfume justice if I didn’t also mention the beauty of the Versace Bright Crystal bottle as well.

Though some may think this sounds a bit dramatic, I can honestly say that the bottle itself almost feels like a work of art.

I left my friend’s apartment that early spring afternoon with a lightness to my step and an online order of my first bottle of Versace Bright Crystal eau de toilette spray already ordered and on its way to me.

At a price of $115 for a 90 ml bottle, I felt this was a great value for such a high quality perfume.

I sighed and looked up at the dogwood trees, just beginning to bud out for spring. With my new summer scent already on its way, I couldn’t wait for the new season’s memories to begin.
