It was a Saturday afternoon in early spring and I was preparing to meet friends for early drinks at our favorite wine bar. It had been a long winter and we were all anxiously anticipating the arrival of spring.

I had just finished getting dressed and was reaching for my favorite bottle of perfume when I realized I had left it at my sister’s house the weekend before.

Annoyed, I looked at the clock. There was just enough time for me to stop by the local department store and pick up a replacement bottle. But only if I hurried.
