The popular fashion house Joop! (pronounced "yope") was launched in 1978 by German fashion and cosmetics designer Wolfgang Joop. The designer chose to add an exclamation point to the company name to distinguish his own name from the brand. The company released a ready-to-wear collection in 1982 that helped it gain popularity throughout Germany.

The first company fragrance was launched in 1987 and many more were produced throughout the decade. These scents were highly successful, and most were best-sellers.
