Balmya Perfume by Pierre Balmain, Indulge in the gourmand elegance of Balmya, a delicious women’s fragrance by Pierre Balmain. Swirling with both floral and foodie essences, this delectable aroma is a treat for the olfactory senses. Top notes of bergamot, angelica, passion fruit, violet leaf and pink pepper opens the scent with a bold mix of fruity and earthy ingredients that immediately captures your attention. Heart notes of rich jasmine, creamy vanilla and robust coffee create their own decadent blend of aromas that awakens the appetite, while base notes of iris petals, cappuccino and woody cashmere and sandalwood all combine for a rich, tantalizing fragrance that’s seductive and gluttonous for the senses.

This Oriental fragrance was launched in 2002 under the house of Balmain, noted French fashion designer. Aside from offering a stunning line of over 27 unique and beautiful fragrances, the innovative minds behind the brand have stayed true to the original vision of releasing elegant evening wear since the 1940s. Subtle, but intense and enduring

I don't like most 'mainstream' perfumes because when they dry down there's a disappointing 'sameness' amongst most of them--to 'my' nose. I understand the basic principles in the formulation of 'personal fragrance'--e.g., Top, Middle, and Base notes--the latter being the most lingering--what

you're left with after the stuff has been mingling w/your chemistry after a period of time. A lot of fragrances are formulated using either synthetic or 'nature identical' components and 'Musk' is one of the most popular. I can believe that it's possible to have an artificial scent component that truly DOES smell like what it's imitating, but to me, most synthetics smell like what they are: fake. So many fragrances use some form of musk that that's the dominant aroma--and to my nose it emerges pretty quickly, which accounts for the degree of similarity among a large number of 'popular' scents, and my distaste for them. So you've got a lot of 'choices' that all end up smelling like some configuration of Musk along w/misc other 'cheap' aromas. [Again, please keep in mind that I'm talking about the olfactory life of 'my' nose!]. Fast forward re *Balmya*: to my nose it doesn't dry down to smell like everything else--it has and retains its own identity/individuality. There's a 'timeless/classic' aspect to this scent which is part of what makes a fragrance even worth considering; it's also subtle, but potent and distinctive--such as could be said about Violets; rather than have a musky aftermath, Balmya is more spicy/woody, but distinctly Feminine. I would definitely purchase a larger size of this product, but give it a '4' rather than a '5' because it's lacking an indefinable property that would make it absolute perfection to me; I'd actually give it a '4.75' if I could :)

Not for me.

The notes sound good on paper, but the scent itself is a mess. I like Balmain's fragrances, but this one is... It smells cheap, overpowering, stale, and makes me uncomfortable. Not for me.

Who knows...

I ordered a mini bottle and the spray mechanism was faulty, so I have no idea what it smells like. I was given a refund.

strange but nice

the smell is unusual, once warmed up on the skin it becomes stronger and wafts around settling to a powdery, spicy lingering perfume. It is a perfume I would happily buy again to wear everywere

Magical & Dreamy

I bought this in 5ml to just try it first & it turns out it's one of the best I've discovered in years. It's magical! I absolutely love it! I don't generally do signature fragrances, usually preferring an eclectic range for choice. I'm using Balmaya for evening only because it's so dreamy I don't want it to become too familial & commonplace, although it might just accidentally become my new evening signature smell as I find myself choosing it instinctively over my others more often than not. I love that it's a bit different to the mainstream perfumes & I quite like that 'peppery' scent it has about it. Also, you can't go wrong with the price & there are no cons that I can see. I'm totally in love!

Bottom Line

Yes, I would recommend to a friend.

Coffee fragrance

This is a well constructed coffee fragrance. The base notes cuddle you in a cashmere shawl which smells like iris, sandalwood and milky coffee.

the signature perfume

it was pretty much love at first sight. i was looking for a new scent and i tried many different perfumes and none of them made me smile like Balmaya. the scent is very long lasting and the notes are all equally strong. the first note is very oriental and floral, then it somehow gets sweet and spicy, the last note is a very satisfying earthy, cottony scent that you'd find a grin on your face. but then my housemate finds it a bit too strong for her (she's more of the classic, natural style).

Bottom Line

Yes, I would recommend to a friend.

A soft floral with coffee notes

This is a pretty, soft floral with a pronounced coffee note (more like cappuccino than coffee beans) which makes it unique. It is a feminine all-round fragrance, highly unlikely to offend anyone. A great creation from the Balmain house.

Bottom Line

Yes, I would recommend to a friend.
