The opening is pure licorice-tinged lavender, sweet, sharp, aromatic and clean. The French design house Diptyque was founded in 1961 by artists Desmond Knox-Leet, Yves Coueslant and Christiane Gautrot. The brand launched its line of fragrances in 1968, beginning with L'Eau, a warm spicy floral composition based on an old English recipe.
