Etienne Aigner started his company selling his luxury handcrafted red leather accessories on the streets of New York in 1959. Though the leather was all that he could afford, the dark red hue became part of his signature design. The 1970s brought many changes including an expansion of the line into other areas including fragrances, jewelry, clothing for both sexes, watches and silk scarves.
