In 1921, Judith Peto was born in Budapest, Hungary. She later married American soldier Gerson Lebier after World War Ii, and she immigrated to the United States in 1948. She managed to escape capture during the war thanks to her father. She worked for a variety of design houses in the first half of the 20th century and focused on developing haute couture clutches and handbags.
