Best Powdery Perfumes 2023

If you think powdery perfumes are dated, think again. Not only can powdery perfumes bring back memories of your first cosmetics but are also luxurious, smell expensive, are light enough to wear every day and are often stunning enough to wear at night. They can smell subtle and soapy or more striking and sensual. Powdery perfumes are blended with floral notes that include iris, violet, rose, and heliotrope but amber, vanilla and musk can smell powdery too.

The most famous powdery perfume is also the most popular fragrance in the world, Chanel N° 5. Ever since a reporter asked Marilyn Monroe what she wore to bed and she responded “CHANEL N°5”, its reputation for being very sexy and expensive is legendary. Superstars throughout the years including Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tatou, Gisele Bundchen and Lily-Rose Depp all wear CHANEL N°5. Bubbling aldehydes sparkle like champagne, lush ylang-ylang, and a burst of bergamot are at the top and meld with a bouquet of iris, jasmine, lily of the valley before settling into a musky and powdery base.

Along with Chanel’s No. 5, Guerlain Shalimar Perfume is the most well-known powdery perfume of all time. It is a perfectly constructed perfume which women (and men) have been wearing for decades.  Shalimar is breathtakingly beautiful; with its unique blend of vanilla, floral and powdery notes of rose, jasmine, orris and heliotrope, opoponax, and vanilla, famously known as the “guerlainade,” and the exact formula is kept secret.

CREED Love in Black was created and inspired by the former US first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Each note reveals a place she loved wildflowers from the Greek isles where she remarried; Violet from Italy a country she loved, Iris from Florence, a favorite city and Virginia Cedarwood where she would ride horses as a young girl. The powdery blend of iris and violets is offset by a hint of rose. This floral melody segues into deep rich black currant – a berry both tart and sweet, before settling into a dusky musky base. This is a powdery perfume that is all out glamorous.

Prada’s powdery floral Infusion d’Iris is a super hit and easy to wear;  the perfect balance of orris, violet and amber make it a modern classic. Luxurious and lovely, Infusion d’ Iris is suited for any occasion. Chic, alluring and sensual it has excellent longevity and can be worn all year round.

Created for Frederic Malle by perfumer Ralf Schwieger in Lipstick Rose is considered one of the best contemporary powdery perfumes. It captures the glamour, both vintage and modern, of the scent of lipstick without being old fashioned, and is young and playful. With a bubbly opening and a sweet tart candied raspberry note, that melds into the heart of powdered rose petals and violets. At the base soft clean musk makes a sophisticated appearance. The lasting dry down is a cushion of plush of candied violets and plush, ambery vanilla. Where any time day of night when you want to feel as polished as wearing the most expensive lipstick on your wrist not your lips.

A powdery perfume that women love so much, Dior named a line of lipsticks for it and emulated its tall blue bottle with a silver stopper, Dior Addict is a bold floral perfume with notes of amber, orange blossom, rose, jasmine and vanilla that powdery perfumes can be daring.

Kenzo Flower’s  powdery floral notes of violet and rose are hyper real with a flourish of white musk at the base. The fragrance of a new century, it has a Y2K vibe of cheerfulness and optimism. With its iconic single red poppy stem adorning the bottle, it is one of the best-selling powdery perfumes for women of all ages.

Musk is often used as a base note and can smell heavy, but Juliette Has A Gun Musc Imvisible has a light, clean composition. A whisper of Cotton flower and Jasmine absolute add a powdery floral quality that feels casual and laid back. Sometimes your perfume does not need to shout to get attention.

So, the next time you hear someone say powdery perfumes are old fashioned, tell them to head on over to FragranceX and watch the compliments pour in.
