Lutens was born in France in 1942 and started his career as a hair stylist before moving into cosmetics and photography. In the 1960s he joined Vogue magazine in Paris as a makeup artist and was commissioned to create his own line of cosmetics by Christian Dior in 1967. In the 1970s, Lutens’ focus turned towards photography, and he directed two short films that were screened at the Cannes Film Festival. It was not until 2000 that the artist launched a line of perfumes, many of which are niche fragrances, highly unique in their unusual compositions. All products are original, authentic name brands. We do not sell knockoffs or imitations.

Bad Idea
This was a bad idea, blending vetiver with chocolate. Matter of taste. Leans masculine. Dries down to a powdery scent but never appeals to my nose. Giving it away.
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend to a friend.

Vetiver Oriental
Luca Turin didn't give this a great review, and it's true that it's not much about vetiver. But I think it's a wonderful fragrance. Similar to Tauer's L'Air du Desert Morocain. I like frankincense and myrrh but if you don't like that category, you won't like this.
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend to a friend.

The highly acclaimed Vetiver Oriental
This is my first SL perfume. I first want to thank FragranceX for shipping to Sri Lanka and also sending the item in a good package. Only one request from me to FragrancX is to add a reflective packaging material which is either shiny or white so that heat from the tropical sun does not alter the molecules in the fragrance while being transported. The website has both Men's and Women's Fragrance for this line but Serge Lutens does not distinguish between gender, he clearly states that all his creations are for everyone and that his pre-occupation is all about creating a character, a place, a mood from his experiences and travels. Vetiver is very much used in Sri Lanka as a day-to-day medicinal plant as much as an offering in Shrines and Temples. The initial impression was quite good as I was awaiting to smell my first SL. But when one starts to learn about the different layers unfold on the skin it just smells very linear. One should be very careful when to use the product. The perfume exudes a character of 'simplicity', 'linearity' and 'honesty' It lacks 'sophistication' but has an overleaf of 'simple-richness' or to be more precise, the perfume in my mind is meant for someone who is rich in character and pleasant by nature. It is not a perfume meant for the 'teenager', 'party' and 'sporty' types The dry-down is powdery and has a slight akin-ness to Jean Paul Gaultier;s Le Male. But it is very mellow and subtle with a twist of musk and amber. An everyday perfume but not an 'all-moods' perfume. I only recommend to people who can afford it. A good perfume but not worth the money spent

Yes, I would recommend to a friend.
